Simpler Times

I just stumbled across an interesting post and wanted to share…

In short, as a culture we tend to turn to authorities to reduce risk and harm to ourselves.  Moreover, our litigious nature makes people afraid of anything that might cause legal liability.  Thus we reduce our own freedom.  You can’t just “blame government.”  It’s our culture.  It’s not just the politicians, it’s how we behave.  Why?  I don’t know.  Maybe we’re spoiled.  Maybe our prosperity has caused us to be afraid of loss.   Maybe the more we have, the more we fear losing it.   And what where does thath leave us as a culture?  What is the way forward?

The Happy Minimalist

I have never been much of a reader. I just can’t suspend reality long enough to get into fiction. The Happy Minimalist book cover

Having said that, when I read, it tends to be magazines, biographies or self-help-ish stuff.

I just finished The Happy Minimalist. At only 108 pages (with big type) it is my kind of read.

The book is mainly “food-for-thought” and the author’s personal experience being a minimalist.

Although his approach to the minimalist lifestyle seems a bit extereme (i.e. not having a bed), there were loads of tips and statistics that I hope to help me work toward living a somewhat minimal (and reduced stress/drama-free) lifestyle.
