Eating Better… Eating Cheaper

I am starting to get back to eating healthier. While M was here it was difficult because the little frozen meals I was eating were designed for one person.Health Choice meal

So… on my last trip to Kroger, I picked up a couple of Health Choice meals. I had one for lunch today… Fire Roasted Tomato Chicken… and I was pleasantly surprised. It was actually good (for a frozen meal). With only 320 calories, 5 grams of fat and a manageable amount of sodium, I plan on picking up some other varieties. I added a slice of bread to my meal, but at only 370 calories for lunch… pretty damn good.

Plus… being the frugal guy I am… Kroger currently has these little meals on sale for $1.88 each. Also… if you go to the News & Offers section of the Health Choice web site, you can print out a coupon for $1.00 off the purchase of two meals. So… at $1.38/meal… tis good.

Mr. Frugal

What can I say… I am frugal… I love to save money. It makes me feel like I am “sticking it to the man”… like I have won piggy bankthe game.

frugal

economical in use or expenditure; prudently saving or sparing; not wasteful.

Some people confuse frugality with being cheap. Oh No! If I really want something, I will buy it. Still… when I can save… I will.

Yes… I clip coupons. Yes… I will stock up on household essentials during a sale. Yes… I will buy store brands if the quality is acceptable.

To celebrate my thriftiness, I have added a frugal tag.

Use Your Own Domain Without Paying $10/Year

One of the premium features available from WordPress.com is domain mapping for $10/year.

Your WordPress.com blog address is a sure sign of style, but what happens when you really get serious about controlling your online identity? It’s easy to add your own domain name, like example.com, to your existing WordPress.com blog. Or if you already have your own domain name, it’s easy to transfer it to your WordPress.com blog. Registering a domain name with us is only $15/year, and mapping an existing domain name is $10/year.

Always the frugal shopper, I have found a way to get around paying the $10 annual fee. Instead, I have registered my hover logodomain (kbnky.com), along with all of my other domains, through hover.com.

Hover.com allows you to set up “hovers” for each of your pages.

So, for instance…

Yes… you will still have to pay the annual registration fee for your domain (around 15 bucks each year), but you can save $10/year and create a variety of subdomains pointing to each of your sites (e.g. your blog, Facebook, MySpace, etc.).

Pretty damn cool.
